Add Tips to Save Gas

One example of a simple thing you can do to save gas is to make sure your tires are properly inflated.

It's Vital That We All Save Gas

You need to save gas because whether you are aware of it or not, the last three years have seen an unprecedented rise and fall in gas prices. The reason why the gas price fluctuates so much is a complicated one, but one fact remains clear. Gas is a finite resource and we must act responsibly about our use of it. The global oil shortage means that saving gas is no longer an option, we simply must do so. Don't worry, there are many ways to save gas and if we all do so, we will greatly reduce the impact of the crisis.

Why Save Gas?

There is a limited amount of oil in the world and every year, global consumption increases. Because oil is a fossil fuel, we cannot make it. Once the world's reserves are gone, they are truly gone. So even though there is still a lot of oil left underground today, the perception of a smaller supply is driving prices through the roof.

Save the World by Saving Gas

If everyone in the world followed some basic gas saving strategies, we could add centuries to the time when our oil supply will run out. By saving gas, you can help (in a very small way) to lower the demand. If enough people do so, the price of gas will go down as the supply increases relative to demand. Besides that, you will be decreasing pollution and doing wonders for the environment by saving gas. Put simply, everyone who saves a little gas, saves a little of the Earth.

Save Gas and Save Your Wallet

Well, even if you are not so altruistic, there is a good reason to save gas. You can save your own money. Let's face it, gas is the one thing you spend thousands of dollars on each year that really gives you very little enjoyment. You have to buy gas. You have to buy gas all the time. What if instead of buying gas, you could save enough to buy a jet ski? How about go on vacation? Why should you spend so much of your disposable income on something you go through within a week. It is similar to food in that you need to keep replacing it. With food, however, you at least get to taste interesting stuff. Imagine if all you ate was potatoes every day. That's what gas is.

Strategies for Saving Gas

The strategies for saving gas are really quite simple. This is the best part. The impact that these tips will have on who you are and what you do is negligible. It is not like a diet where you have to give up great food like premium ice cream. Just follow these tips and instantly you will be spending less on gas, which will either save the planet or let you buy that jet ski. So follow the ideas below and learn how to save gas.

  • Check your Tires

One example of a simple thing you can do to save gas is to make sure your tires are properly inflated. That's it! When was the last time you used a tire gauge to check the pressure on your tires. If the answer is never, then I suggest you go to an auto parts store and spend $6 on a accurate gauge. Then check your tires - all four of them - once each week. It should take you no more than two minutes. When your pressure is low, just go to the nearest service station and fill them up. Even the best tires leak some air over time. Just having a tire even slightly under inflated adds gallons to your fuel consumption over time. There are many more easy strategies just like this.

  • Calculate Gas Mileage.

Whatever you do, do not rely on what your car manufacturer says is the gas mileage of your car. Measure it yourself. This is very easy to do. Before your next fill up, wait until your tank is almost empty. Then, when you fill up the tank, write down how many gallons your tank holds. Most people don't even look at this. They just see how much the gas costs and drive off in a huff. With a full tank, reset your trip odometer to zero. After your tank is empty again, just look how many miles you have driven. Then, divide the total miles by the total gallons your car took. The result will be your gas mileage.

  • Get More Gas for Your Money

When you do need to fill up with gas, make you you look for low cost gas. Shop around and find out which places give discounts and sell low cost gas. Make sure you fill up gas at the coolest times of the day. Gas is sold by volume, but when temperatures are cooler, the density of the gas is higher and so you get more gas for your money.
